Naeyaert takes home first WISSOTA Late Feature of year at Shawano Speedway

Shawano, WI (July 28, 2012) – Tom Naeyaert won his first WISSOTA Late Model feature of the year at Shawano Speedway, while Joel Bennett won his 10th FASTRAK Late Model feature. Marcus Yarie won his second straight IMCA Modified feature, while Brandon Czarapata won his fourth IMCA Stock Car feature. The IMCA Northern SportMod feature went to Tracy Wassenberg, his sixth of the year.

Tom Naeyaert jumped out to the quick lead over Craig Bartz, Ron Berna, Justin Ritchie and Gordie Seegert in the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Ritchie ducked to the inside of Berna on the next lap to take over the third spot. Over the next several laps Naeyaert and Bartz pulled away from the rest of the field as all the drivers were fighting for the bottom of the track.

The running order stayed the same until five laps remained when Berna slipped up the track just a bit allowing Seegert, Nick Anvelink and Troy Springborn to get by. It was all Naeyaert as he went on to the win.

Eric Arneson grabbed the early lead in the IMCA Modified feature with John Berna, Mark Weisnicht, John Peters and Jerry Muenster following. Jason Czarapata and Marcus Yarie joined the top five a couple of laps later, with Yarie moving up to second place when the caution flag flew on lap eight.

Arneson led the first lap after the restart, but Yarie quickly made his way by Arneson for the lead. Arneson stayed in the second spot for four laps when Czarapata took control of the second spot. The top three held their positions the rest of the race, with Yarie taking the win over Czarapata, Arneson, Berna and Eddie Muenster.

Justin Jacobsen led the first two laps of the IMCA Stock Car feature when Brandon Czarapata moved into the top spot. Barry Van Straten made his way by Jacobsen on lap five, with Dan Michonski following on the next lap. Just past the midway point of the race, the caution came out for fluid on the track, and Michonski headed to pit lane.

Czarapata continued to lead on the restart with Van Straten, Luke Uttecht, Jacobsen and Brian Ambrosius following. A couple of cautions slowed the action with four laps remaining. Czarapata led the rest of the laps after the restart to take the win.

Aaron Wickersheim gave way to his brother Jeff Wickersheim on lap nine of the FASTRAK Late Model feature. This left Aaron Wickersheim to battle with Wayne Block for second, with Jeff Curtin and Joel Bennett rounding out the top five. A caution with eight laps remaining bunched up the field.

On the restart, Bennett went from fifth to first. Block secured the second spot on the next lap with Curtin, Jeff Wickersheim and Aaron Wickersheim following. That’s the way it ended, with Bennett securing his 10th feature of the year.

In the IMCA Northern SportMod feature Angie Wolf pulled out to a small lead early in the race before being run down by Cody Hudson, who took the lead on lap six. Jason Jach moved to second a couple laps later, with Jake Solin and Tracy Wassenberg following a few laps later.

Jach applied some pressure on Hudson for the lead while Wassenberg was making his way to the front. The only caution of the race came out with six laps remaining. Wassenberg took the lead on the resart with Jach also getting by Hudson. Hudson fought back to grab the runner-up spot, but it was Wassenberg racing to another win.

The Speedway will host the World of Outlaws Dirt Late Model Series Wednesday, Aug. 1 with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. It will then resume its season, Saturday, Aug. 4, with the racing action getting underway at 6:30 p.m.
